The Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory is seeking to hire a research scientist as lead for the Center for Accelerator Target Science (CATS) [Argonne careers posting 413784]. CATS is a national center for the development and fabrication of targets for nuclear physics research. We perform and develop a broad array of techniques to provide stable and radioactive targets for the Argonne Tandem Linac Accelerator System (ATLAS) as well as to the broader DOE-NP nuclear physics community.
To meet these needs necessitates working with elements across the periodic table including handling radioactive materials and hazardous chemicals in controlled environments. In this role, the successful candidate would be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the target laboratory and supervising a technical staff member. This role will be hired as a Research and Development II or III. The level will be determined by the candidate’s level of education, experience, and skill.
