Three Minute Thesis Competition

Calling all grad students, co-op/undergrad students and postdocs:

It’s that time of year again: the GAPS Three Minute Thesis Competition is coming up! It will be held on Tuesday November 27th at 12 pm in the MOB auditorium. The basic idea is to present your research to a scientifically literate non-specialist audience in three minutes or less, using only one slide. The actual audience will be your fellow GAPS members, plus judges from the lab.

This is a great exercise in summarizing what you do in a concise and exciting way - very helpful in job interviews and in preparing for those dreaded “so what do you actually do?” questions from non-Physics family and friends.

And if you’re still not sold: We’ll be featuring cash prizes for first-place finishers in the "Students" and "Post-docs" categories, and for our People's Choice winner.
If you would like to participate in the competition, please respond to this email with:

  1. Your name

  2. The name of your supervisor (so we can avoid conflicts of interest in
    our selection of judges)

  3. Whether you’re a graduate student, undergraduate student or postdoc

  4. The title of your talk (if you have one already - but this isn't necessary)

We’re looking forward to a great competition! May the odds be ever in your favour!
